The Scalable Model: Next-Generation Mobile Care in Oaxaca with 19Labs’ GALE and Starlink Connectivity

Updated: 2 hours ago

We are proud to announce the launch of the next generation of Oaxaca state’s long-standing mobile medical unit program. By integrating GALE eClinics and Starlink satellite connectivity, we bring advanced, connected care to some of rural Oaxaca's most remote and underserved communities in partnership with Oaxaca’s Secretary of Health.

These trusted and familiar mobile units are now powerfully strengthened with telemedicine and connectivity capabilities. The launch phase of this partnership equips part of Oaxaca’s mobile health units to deliver advanced diagnostics, real-time specialist access, and data-driven preventative care directly to rural Indigenous communities.

"It’s more than video calls,” said Dr. Danner, Director of the Oaxaca Health Care Strengthening Program. “This is about providing integrated, preventative care that empowers the patient and the provider. GALE helps us not only treat — we can now detect, connect, and follow up like never before.

For decades, mobile medical units have been a critical vehicle for rural care in Mexico. With this upgrade, the small health team traveling by truck to a rotating schedule of remote communities can now connect with remote specialists, conduct specialist-guided ultrasound prenatal checkups, and perform critical screening for chronic and emerging conditions.

The addition of Starlink satellite connectivity ensures that these mobile units are not bound by terrain or infrastructure. Whether parked atop a hillside village or outside a local “Casa de Salud” (health house), the GALE platform brings hospital-grade connectivity and diagnostics to the field.

Beyond delivering real-time care, GALE equips mobile teams with tools to collect critical data on patient health, social factors, and community conditions. By digitizing intake, screenings, and surveys, providers and public health officials can better understand care gaps, anticipate community needs, and support long-term health outcomes across entire populations.

“GALE isn’t just a tool for doctors, it’s a platform that can help decision-making,” said Dr. Danner. “It allows us to gather real, community-level health data that can inform decisions at the state and federal level. We're not just treating patients, we’re learning from them, identifying in a timely manner and helping to build public health responses, in a more comprehensive and integrated way in rural areas of Oaxaca.”

This initiative is part of 19Labs’ broader mission to reimagine rural healthcare through innovative, scalable solutions that work anywhere — a small pickup truck, a clinic in a mountaintop community, or a school gymnasium. What’s being piloted in Oaxaca today can serve as a blueprint for mobile health across Mexico, the U.S., and the globe.

“I’ve used telemedicine before, but GALE is on another level,” said Dra. Dulce, a mobile medical unit physician in Oaxaca. “It’s compact, intuitive, and easy for us to connect patients with specialists they may otherwise never reach.”

As the mobile units visit and return to the communities, equipped with new tools and deeper capabilities, a familiar and trusted healthcare model is being elevated, bringing care, confidence, and continuity to the farthest corners of the state.
