Building on the momentum of the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA)-funded pilot project, 19Labs and its partners have successfully launched a telemedicine program in Yucatán, Mexico. The initiative has already connected 10 rural communities to high-quality healthcare through GALE eClinics, with additional communities set to come online soon.
Redwood City, CA – April 2, 2025
This milestone marks a significant step forward in improving healthcare access for remote regions in Mexico. By leveraging GALE’s advanced telemedicine technology, residents can now access medical consultations, advanced diagnostic tools, and specialist care without traveling long distances. The program integrates cutting-edge solutions from partners like Zoom and EchoNous to deliver a seamless and effective telehealth experience.

Medical professionals working with GALE eClinics in Yucatán have already seen transformative results.
“GALE has helped patients avoid long wait times for specialty care and save money on transportation costs,” - Dr. Monserrat Guadalupe Camelo Castillo, Director of the Colonia Yucatán community clinic.
The impact is particularly evident in managing chronic conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes and hypertension, as well as providing initial assessments for high-risk pregnancies and pediatric evaluations.
Similarly, the Noh Bec community clinic director highlighted the program’s ability to expedite specialist consultations and initiate treatment sooner:
“We are at least three hours from Mérida, where the specialists are, so GALE has been a major financial and logistical relief for our patients. This has encouraged seeking medical treatment sooner instead of waiting until symptoms become critical.” - Nurse María Magdalena Chan Uluac, Director of the Noh Bec community clinic.
GALE’s telemedicine capabilities have also enhanced collaboration between local clinicians and specialists.
“It complements our learning, helping us better interpret diagnostic studies and refine our clinical assessments,” said one provider. - Dr. Camelo Castillo.
Another noted how GALE has enabled them to manage conditions that previously required referral, such as pediatric dermatology and complex asthma cases.
The real-world impact of GALE is already evident in the patient outcomes. In Comunidad Col. Yucatán, a concerned mother brought in her child for an evaluation after a previous diagnosis of a heart murmur and episodes of shortness of breath. Thanks to GALE’s advanced diagnostic capabilities, the team ruled out the condition and provided appropriate treatment for allergic rhinitis instead.
In Noh Bec, a six-month-old pediatric patient with chronic dermatitis finally received an accurate diagnosis and specialist treatment, significantly improving her condition.
“Bringing high-quality healthcare to rural communities is at the heart of our mission,” said Ram Fish, CEO of 19Labs. “This deployment in Yucatán is another step toward a more inclusive and accessible healthcare system.”
Beyond infrastructure, 19Labs is actively collaborating with local community leaders to promote the telemedicine program and ensure residents are aware of the services available to them. Community engagement efforts aim to maximize the program’s impact by fostering trust and encouraging participation.
The Yucatán deployment is part of a broader initiative to scale telemedicine solutions across Mexico. 19Labs, in partnership with Vasanta and other key stakeholders, remains committed to transforming healthcare accessibility for underserved populations through technology-driven innovation.
